The 2018 Miss Uganda North America Cares Tour of Uganda will kick off January 6th. This annual tour is a two-week tourism, culture and charity effort led by the reigning Miss Uganda North America beauty queen, accompanied by visitors from North America and other places all over the world. It involves exploration of Uganda's nature, wildlife and oldest cultures, charity work, and women empowerment activities.
The reigning Miss Uganda North America 2017/18 beauty queen, Yvonne Kushemererwa, will be visiting Tooro Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, and Jinja town. During her tour, she will make a stop at Kyaninga Child Development Center to deliver toys, wheel chairs and scholastic aid from the Ugandan community in North America. She will also be doing a book reading and delivering books to the Ella Foundation in Jinja town. The last leg of her tour will be the LadiesFirst! Forum for Women in Leadership, to be held on January 19th, 2018 at Mestil Hotel and Residences in Kampala, Uganda.
"It is very exciting that this year Miss Uganda North America has lived up to its promise of being a leadership program. This is the first time that we have done such a thing and it will go a long way to connect Ugandans in North America to their roots while supporting Ugandan tourism and Ugandan businesses," says Tibba Murungi Kabugu, program president. The Miss Uganda North America Leadership Program is a program of the Ugandan North American Association (UNAA). Yvonne Kushemererwa won the 2017 Miss Uganda North America Beauty Pageant that took place on September 1st, 2017 in Miami, Florida. The Cares Tour is her gift from the program and an opportunity for her to use her voice to champion good causes. She's a mental health advocate based in Vancouver, British Columbia - a South Western province of Canada. "I’ve been experiencing a plethora of emotions ...," Yvonne shared in a recent post on Facebook, adding "... I can't wait to see what God has in store for me and my [Miss Uganda North America] team."
The Cares Tour is sponsored by Kibira Safaris Tours and Travel, Equity Bank, iConnect Uganda, Texas-based Inzozi Fashion House, UNAA, Brussels Airlines, Crater Safari Lodge (Crystal Lodges and Safaris) and Mahogany Springs Luxury Lodge. Yvonne Kushemererwa and the Miss Uganda North America team will be received by the reigning Miss Uganda Rising Woman Iryn Nakitende, as well as Dorothy Tukamushaba Okoboi and Anna Bagaya from Kibira Safaris.
