Since 2007, Anne Kansiime, the Mukiga comedian from Uganda, has steadily grown her Anne-Hive spanning multiple continents. We ran into Anne and of course we couldn't help asking a few questions.

Spoiler Alert! We failed to make the interview serious. Anne is Anne. Always funny!

Anne Kansiime

M.A.R.: Grounded in your roots ... That's what singing about Kigezi seemed to say. Is Kansiime still that small girl who dared to try out stand-up?

Kansiime: Small yes...I don't think my physical size has plans of adjusting. However when it comes to the comparison between when I joined standup comedy and now, it is surely huge. I am bolder, louder and I have more life experiences to talk about. I love it!

Anne Kansiime

M.A.R.: I Am Kansiime ... Did it exceed your expectations and quash any doubts about not being the African Queen of comedy?

Kansiime: Yes it exceeded my expectations. The audience turned up in such great numbers, looking fine and they spent their money on me like crazy. I was humbled! About being the Queen of Comedy, my ninjas came up with that. I enjoy it but I always leave that decision to them. I am simply enjoying doing what I love.

Anne Kansiime

M.A.R.: You embody the revolution that is today's woman. How would you define today's woman?

Kansiime: Unstoppable and fearless. Women are facing more challenges than ever before in this fast paced world but they keep showing up on top.We have great female presidents, beauticians, restauranteurs all while being great beautiful mothers, just name it and women will do it for you.

Anne Kansiime

M.A.R.: Kansiime of Kigezi! Your journey so far in one sentence?

Kansiime: Ayiii!!! in one sentence? But my diaspora fans...asking a Mukiga to take only one sentence...hmmm you have faith! Anyway let me try. Don't let your dreams scare you no matter how big and unrealistic they seem, simply hold onto them and keep pushing and you will be surprised by what God can do. I am a living testimony.

Anne Kansiime

M.A.R.: The Diaspora loves you. You know it. So when do we see you again?

Kansiime: I equally love the diaspora or - as we call it at home - outside countries so simply invite me and I will surely be there.

Living testimony indeed! Kansiime (Kan-See-Me) is a Trailblazing Everyday Crush Woman (Yes, ECW!!!) and we wish her even more success. A diaspora show soon, maybe ... :)
